Engaging with Black History Month

Posted on: February 6th, 2017 by Cru in the MidSouth
This month there are tons of ready made opportunities on your campuses to engage in cross cultural learning.  While there are different opinions on the efficacy of Black History Month it is a wonderful time to see history from a different historical perspective and learn to see the image of God on display in other people groups.  I want to encourage you to make use of the events put on by the university or by other student groups.  Many schools will have amazing historic speakers this month that we miss out on because we were too busy putting together a Valentine’s day outreach.  Keep the Valentine’s day outreach but realize this could be a great season to communicate  worth and value to a part of the student body that often feels marginalized.  Is there an event you might go to as a staff team?  What might it look like to expose your discipleship group to a cross cultural learning experience this month?  If you have questions or want some suggestions for next steps, let me know. ~Clyde Comer
